cloudFiles – Install Windows Sync Client

Note: This is not our recommended method of use. If you would like to install the Sync Client, please contact us

Synopsis

The cloudFiles Sync Client allows sync your files from the cloudFiles service to your computer, enabling you to work on files offline. This article provides the instructions needed to install the Sync Client on a Windows based machine. You will need Admin Rights to be able to complete the necessary steps. If you do not have the required privileges you can request the FEAS-IT group to do the install for you, using one of our communication channels.

Downloads

Instructions

If you have not already done so, use the link from the Downloads section to download the installer for the cloudFiles Sync Çlient (Win).

Browse to the location that the installer was downloaded to and double click the FileCloudSyncSetup.exe file to launch the installer.

If you have a computer that has UAC enabled you will be prompted about whether you wish to make changes to your computer – click yes. Once the installer launches you will get a dialog where you can select if you want to integrate the sync client into Windows Explorer. We (FEAS-IT) recommend that you do; so ensure the check box is ticked, then press Next.

The installer is now configured and ready to proceed. Click Install.

After the installer is complete, you will be prompted to restart the computer.  Set the radio button to Yes, restart the computer now; click the Finish button to restart the machine.

After the computer reboots, log back in.  Launch the sync client by clicking on the Start Menu and finding the newly installed application  — FileCloudSync.

The first time you launch the sync client you will be presented with a configuration dialog.  Enter  https://cloudFiles.Engineering.QueensU.ca into the server URL field.  Enter your NetID credentials into the username and password fields.  Then click the Login button.

The sync client will immediately begin syncing your files from the server to your computer.  You can see the status of your client in your task tray.  This rotating arrow shows that the client is currently syncing files.
