cloudFiles – Install Windows Drive Client

Synopsis

The cloudFiles Drive Client allows you to access your files directly from the cloudFiles service without the need to sync a copy to your computer. This article provides the instructions needed to install the Drive Client on a Windows based machine. You will need Admin Rights to be able to complete the necessary steps. If you do not have the required privileges you can request the FEAS-IT group to do the install for you, using one of our communication channels.

Downloads

Instructions

If you have not already done so, use the link from the Downloads section to download the installer for the cloudFiles Drive Çlient (Win).

Navigate to the location that you saved the download to and double click the installer (FileCloudDriveSetup.exe).

If you have a computer that has UAC enabled you will be prompted about whether you wish to make changes to your computer – click yes.  Once the installer launches you will get a dialog where you can select if you want to integrate the drive client into Windows Explorer.  We (FEAS-IT) recommend that you do; so ensure the check box is ticked, then press Next.

The installer is now configured and ready to proceed.  Click Install.

The install will start and a progress bar will appear.  During the install a special driver will be installed and an extra prompt will appear.  Click the Install button.
After the installer is complete, you will be prompted to restart the computer.  Set the radio button to Yes, restart the computer now; click the Finish button to restart the machine.

After the computer reboots, log back in.  The cloudFiles drive client should launch automatically and a config window will appear (see step 8).  If the application does not launch automatically then find the drive client in All Programs area of your start menu; it will be called FileCloudDrive and launch it.

In the configuration window you will want to enter https://cloudfiles.engineering.queensu.ca as the Server URL.  Your NetID and related password go into the Account and Password fields.  The pull down for the Mount Point will default to the lowest letter available.  FEAS-IT recommends that you set the drive to Z:.  Once all the settings are configured click the Map Drive button.

If everything went smoothly the config window will close and a File Explorer window will open with your cloudFiles folders showing.  If for some reason it did not work then please contact FEAS-IT.
